Welcome to Class R page.

Our class teacher is Mrs Colwell and our teaching assistant is Mrs Jones.

On Friday mornings the children have Mrs Adjei.

The children have had the most amazing first day!! All settled in well and have been super busy accessing the learning environment, singing and listening to stories.

This half term the children will be busy learning through play whilst the adults are paying along side, observing and providing resources to enhance and extend their play.

All the children will begin to have reading books, please support the children by looking at these at home. The first set will be wordless, encouraging story telling by looking at the pictures, careful handling of books and engaging a love of stories. They will also have a home learning folder with ideas of what you can do at home to develop your children further.

WOW sheets  - I love to hear all about the amazing things you do at home, I will share these with the class and display them on our WOW board.

Mrs Colwell is happy to speak to parents or guardians either before or after school, or if easier please  either email or call.

PE is on Monday afternoons, please ensure all kit is labelled.

The teachers and assistants in Reception continue to watch and interact with us everyday to see what we are interested in and what we are good at. Then they plan a range of really exciting indoor and outdoor activities for us following the Early Years Foundation Stage guidance. This has seven areas of learning:

Personal, Social and Emotional Development.

We are promoting positive attitudes through the use of circle time and puppets. We are focusing on forming positive relationships with both peers and adults and we try to be really kind and considerate to each other. We provide opportunities to help build children's self-confidence and self-awareness.

Communication and Language.

We encourage the children to listen carefully in a range of situations; such as story time, circle time and to instructions. We model how to speak clearly and confidently and how to take turns in conversations. Daily the children join in with Concept Cat from the word aware programme introducing them to new vocabulary.

Physical Development

We are supporting the children as they develop their gross and fine motor skills. This is through the use of large equipment such as the climbing frame, bikes and balls and smaller equipment such as peg boards, threading, play dough and mark making tools. During P.E. sessions we encourage children to change into their PE. kit independently before going into the hall or outdoors to explore space and movement. Please ensure your child has their PE. kit here each Monday labelled with their names. We are focusing on holding a pen or pencil and use it to write recognisable letters. We will be using scissors, paintbrushes, pens, hammers and bricks. The children are working on their finger muscles and daily join in with dough disco as well as other funky finger excerises.

We will explore a variety of fiction, non-fiction, songs and poetry texts focused around the topic of Magical Me. This term we will be focusing on Phase 1 phonics, focusing on environmental sounds, instrumental sounds, body percussion, rhythm and rhyme, alliteration, voice sounds and oral blending and segmenting (eg hearing d-o-g as dog) before introducing letter sounds with Jolly Phonics. We will be focusing on forming our names correctly in a variety of ways. We will be studying a variety of books; Funny bones, My Mum and Dad, My Five Senses, Peace at Last, Duck's Key, Where can it be?

This term we will be looking at matching and sorting, comparing size, mass, amounts and capacity, exploring patterns, representing numbers 1-5, composition 1-5, comparing 1-5 and introducing 2d shapes, We will do this through stories, songs, practical activities, online activities, cooking and numberblocks. This half term we will be learning 5 little ducks, days of the week song, 5 currant buns, 5 little monkeys and 5 speckled frogs.

Understanding the World.

We are supporting the children in finding out about themselves and others, realising that we are all different but all special. Laptops are available throughout the day and the children are encouraged to ask and answer questions about the world around them. Each child has access to an ipad on Thursday.

Expressive Arts and Design

The children will have great fun painting, using clay, oil pastels, and chalks and engaging in spontaneous messy play, producing many pieces of art that they will bring home. We also have a range of musical instruments and role play props for the children to explore.

Thank you for all your continuing support!!
